Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), or concussion injury, is considered to be a possible factor in the development of some variants of dementia. My idea is to encourage professional sportspeople to donate their brains for CTE research.

If concussion is a cause of dementia, the the brains of sportspeople would be ideal for medical researchers in this important field. Some sporting codes suggest that players be aware of the possible long term damage that small and large concussion can cause but the only way to actually find out is to do the research on the brains that have been concussed. Some US grid iron footballers, and NASCAR drivers have signalled their intention to donate their brains for this important cause. Now we need some high profile Australian sportstars to get the brain donation ball rolling here.
