Our idea is for the Parliament, as elected representatives of Australia, to amend the Marriage Act 1961 to allow for equality of marriage without a plebiscite.

We believe holding a plebiscite would open up the LGBTIQ community to undue criticism and cause harm. Galaxy Research polling from 2009-2012 shows that 64 per cent of Australians support marriage equality, this is a more efficient, economically viable and appropriate course of action. A recent survey of 5500 LGBTIQ people found that almost 85 per cent of those surveyed were opposed to the plebiscite. This idea asks our elected representatives to step up and make equal marriage legal without hurting any LGBTIQ Australians in the process.
