The Hastings Homeless Support Group is auspiced through the Hope Shop in Port Macquarie, in partnership with onevoice, and the Rotary Port Macquarie Cluster. We are in the process of setting up a Mobile Shower & Laundry Service for the Homeless

My name is Paul Skilleter,  for the last 2 years my team and i have been working on trying to set up a Mobile Shower & Laundry Service for the Homeless in the Port Macquarie Hastings LGA,

On any given night in Australia 105,237 people are homeless this is 1 in 204 people and nearly half (43%) of these people are under the age of 25. In 2013-14 an estimated 254,000 Australians accessed specialist homelessness services (refuges, emergency accommodation).

We are a grass roots service with no funding or financial backing we have recently gone into partnership with Onevoice for Aussie Youth www.onevoice.org.au and today we are asking for your generous support to help us pay for the fit out of a commercial van which will be fitted with two showers, grey water tanks, on board generator plus a washing machine and dryer.

The purchase and fit out of the van is going to cost us $175,000 just to get our project off the ground which in turn will help the homeless throughout the Mid North Coast of NSW.

The services we will be offering is a mobile shower and laundry service which will have two showers, a washing machine, dryer and an advocacy service and access to a qualified counsellor.

In the past 2 years i have been conducting extensive needs analysis and community profiles to build a case for why we actually need this service, there are similar services in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane (onevoice) but not on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

In the Port Macquarie Hastings LGA there is approximately 150+ homeless youth with the majority of them couch surfing plus another 200 homeless adults and children and they range from rough sleepers right through to couch surfers, women and children escaping domestic and family violence sleeping in their cars with our refuges at full capacity and a lack of affordable housing a lot of people are find themselves living on the streets and struggling to survive from day to day.

There is no one reason why someone is homeless and alot of the time it's not by choice. It's usually women and children escaping Domestic and Family My name is Paul Skilleter,  for the last 1 year and 8 months my team and i have been working on trying to set up a mobile shower service for the homeless in the Port Macquarie Hastings LGA,

So if you are interested in making a difference in the lives of our less fortunate any help you could provide will be greatly appreciated and the funds will be well spent in helping our homeless have access to a hot shower, laundry facilities and access to services that they never new existed. With our partnership with onevoice we have access to all their sponsors ie; Aldi Australia are kindly donating all the toiletries, the Hope Shop will be providing clean clothing. We are currently running a crowd funding campaign please visit our crowd funding campaign at www.gofundme.com/mnchomeless

Thanks again in advance for your kind support.
