My idea is to launch an online news blog to raise a diversity of voices from communities all around Australia to tell their stories and shape their own narratives.

My idea is to launch an online news blog to raise a diversity of voices from communities all around Australia to tell their stories and shape their own narratives.

The blog would curate and tell the stories of Australians from diverse backgrounds and marginalised and disadvantaged socio-economic communities.

Importantly the site would aim to discover talent from within those communities and give a voice to populations misrepresented and underrepresented in mainstream Australian media.

As such one of the aims would be to dispel often misrepresented mainstream perceptions and challenge commonly held assumptions and stereotypes. The site could offer profile stories of people and their experiences, highlighting any talents and accomplishments and them being all sorts of individual human beings.

They could tell of tragedy or triumph, success and entrepreneurial ship with a look at local realities on the ground. The first-hand stories and reports would increase visibility of communities around Australia to help attract broad national attention and interest.

The site would offer news on politics, business, entertainment, environment, technology, and lifestyle, with a focus on local perspectives and experiences.

The blog would provide opportunities for writers living in these communities to tell and report on issues that impact upon their communities.

In a spirit of participatory citizen journalism the idea is to empower individuals to be their local advocates and ambassadors through storytelling and reporting.
