CASE STUDY: Uganda's scorecards for elected representatives

In Uganda there are relatively few avenues to provide feedback on government services to elected officials, even to local government which is responsible for delivering key services such as education and healthcare.

Researchers are trialling innovative ways for citizens to be more engaged in government policies and programs.

These include: a text messaging system which allows people to voice complaints with elected officials about government services, and publishing a performance scorecard on how well an elected official is carrying out their duties across a number of areas.
